SAMARAHAN: The roundabout-to-traffic light intersection conversion at Institut Pentadbiran Awam Negara (INTAN) is expected to be completed by the end of April.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the Public Works Department (PWD) has been working very hard to ensure the completion of the project.

He said the traffic jams at INTAN roundabout are pretty severe compared to the other two roundabouts where work is relatively easy to do and complete.

“It is quite definite that works at all the five roundabouts along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway will be completed before November this year,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Wednesday (March 29).

Minos said motorists were thankful when the traffic light intersection was set up at the Stutong and Tabuan Tranquility roundabouts.

“Obviously, they are happy and I can understand as these motorists have long suffered because of the bad traffic jams all these years at the roundabouts. Complaints are getting less and less of late.

“There are no more sarcastic and angry words. When people are happy, they do not complain and we feel relieved as well as happy for this,” he said.

Minos urged the public to exercise patience as the PWD and its contractors are doing their best.

He said the current rescue contractors are good and very serious, hence the confidence they will complete their work by or before the end of November this year.

“I am a daily user of the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, so I do share the same frustration and unhappiness created by the daily traffic jams.

“However, pretty soon the traffic jam pains will be over and that should be a reason for joy,” he added.
