7 killed in fiery accident near Jempol

SEREMBAN: Seven people were killed when their vehicles were involved in an accident involving three vehicles along Jalan Ladang Risda Palong, Jempol, near here today.

Five of the victims were burnt to death in one of the vehicles.

Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the crash, which occurred at 2.20pm involved a trailer, a Perodua Myvi car and a Proton Ezora car.

“Two of those killed were travelling in the Perodua Myvi car.

“The other five were burnt in the Proton Ezora car, which burst into flames after the trailer lorry crushed into it.”

He said the trailer lorry driver was not injured.

The identities of the dead were not confirmed.

In MUAR, two men died, and four others were injured after two vehicles collided at Km42 of Jalan Muar-Segamat, near here, today.

In the accident, which occurred at 9am, the driver of a Proton Wira — Philip Michael Arokia Nathen, 31, and his nephew, Eric Michael Arokiasamy Nathen, 24 — were killed.

Philip’s mother — S. Philomena, 62 — suffered bruises to her forehead, and father, M Arokia Nathen, 64, broke both his legs.

The incident also caused injuries to Mohamad Haiqal Farhan Mohd Yusof, 24, and Aina Shafiqah Shaidi, 24, who were both in the other car, a Honda Jazz.

Tangkak district police chief Supt Mohad Idris Samsuri said the accident was believed to have occurred when the car driven by Philip had entered the opposite lane into the path of Haiqal’s car, which was heading from Sungai Mati towards Segamat. Bernama
