Private sectors, key to transforming Sarawak’s economy, says Premier

KUCHING: The private sector must be fully engaged in driving the growth of the Sarawak economy.

Having said this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg pointed out that the key to realising Sarawak as a developed economy by 2030 is through participation of Sarawak businesses, investing in the state’s projects.

“The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government will step up efforts in promoting entrepreneurship and investment among Sarawakians who are keen to develop and implement their projects.

“In this vein, the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) plays a pivotal role in coordinating the relationship between the business community and the State Government, as we work together in making Sarawak a developed state by 2030,” he said.
He said this when attending the SCCI Platinum Jubilee Dinner at a hotel here last night (Nov 25).

When pointing out the importance of developing the state’s information and communication technology infrastructure, he said the state government is committed to setting up a world-class ICT infrastructure.

“A vibrant digital economy requires active participation of the local business community by utilising the infrastructure to add value to their businesses.

“Indeed, politicians and government servants can at best provide the direction and framework for the economy, but it is the private sector that must do all the hard work of getting things moving,” he said.
