KUCHING: Around 700 new students enrolled at Politeknik Kuching Sarawak (PKS) for the first semester of the 2022/2023 session.

PKS director Hikmatullah Hajid Ahmad Khan said 90 per cent of those enrolled were Sarawakians while the rest were from Malaya and Sabah.

“We offered admission letters to potential students, but they were rejected perhaps due to other offers.

“Therefore, we will roll out another round of admission offer to meet the recruitment target of more than 1,000 students because the number so far has yet to meet the desired capacity,” he said at the closing ceremony of Minggu Suai Kenal for the new students at Dewan Jubli Perak, Politeknik Kuching, yesterday.

Hikmatullah said the students are very lucky to be part of PKS as the educators are very dedicated.

“Our lecturers are all dedicated and committed to producing quality graduates.

“In fact, we also received many offers from various industries to work together. Through this collaboration, graduates have the potential to enter the workforce,” he added.

He said that the level of marketability of PKS students to work is also encouraging.

“Based on a survey, 96 out of 100 students managed to get a job after graduation.

“In fact, the other four per cent of those who are not working can actually obtain a job but refuse due to certain factors,” he said.

In the meantime, Hikmatullah called on the students to take advantage of the opportunities available and work hard to succeed and make their parents proud.

He also revealed that PKS will introduce its Menu RM3.50 programme in the institution’s cafes and eateries as PKS stresses three K’s (Keselamatan (Safety); Keselesaan (Comfort) and Kebajikan (Welfare) which help ease the burden of underprivileged students.
