KUCHING: The state needs talented men and women to developed Sarawak, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the new economy which is based on talent and digital, do not differentiate between men and women, as long as one has the talent.

“In Sarawak we have 2.8 million people and our economic development is quite fast including digitalisation and manufacturing based on resources.

“There will be a lot of downstream manufacturing based on oil and gas as well as confirmed investments.

“Surely their production process will include technology and that’s where I think for men and women, the opportunities are there because we are a small region and we need everybody who have the talent to develop our state,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after delivering his winding up speech at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) 15th Triennial General Meeting (TGM) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

He also said that the convention had allowed the party to explore into new economy and government policy.

“We will try to achieve what has been said in our Post-COVID Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and all off this are new in our economy.

“And of course, we are very fortunate to have a strong team under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to transform Sarawak,” he said.

Abang Johari, who is also the PBB president said the party had amended its constitution to allow additional women member in the supreme council.

“At the moment, the party only has Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah in the supreme council and we want to add more women in the list,” he added.

Abang Johari also called on members to remain united so that the party would continue to be strong.

“Let PBB continue to be the strongest party in Sarawak, and we should not have any power tussle or war lord as it will destroy the party,” he said.
