KUCHING: A total of 2,420 delegates are expected to attend the PBB 15th convention which will begin here today.
The three-day meeting which will culminate on Sunday (June 19) will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
At 10am today, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officiate at the opening of the youth and women wing convention.
Tomorrow, will be the highlight of the event, which Abang Johari as PBB president will officiate.
Several items are on the agenda such as discussing matters arising from the minutes of the meeting, receiving reports from the secretary general and treasurer of the party as well as the dissolution of the supreme council for the 2018-2022 term.
The party president, two deputy presidents, two senior vice presidents and seven vice presidents have been returned unopposed to their posts for the 2022-2025 term.
The convention will however see contests for supreme council posts under the Bumiputera wing of the party. It will see 22 members contesting for the 16 supreme council posts under its Bumiputera wing.
As for the 14 supreme council posts under the Pesaka wing, there were 24 nominations but 10 have since withdrawn and as such, those nominated have won uncontested.
On the third day, the convention will see the appointment of two auditors, three officers to comply with Section 9 (b) of the Societies Act 1966 which shall consist of the party’s post holders and appointment of an officer for the purpose of Section 9 (c) of the Societies Act 1966.
On that day, the party will also hold debate motions, with the winding up by Abang Johari slated for later that day.
Among the motions that will be debated is an amendment to the party’s constitution to enable the party to set up a new youth wing for those aged 18 to 28.
Another motion is expected to be on boosting Sarawak’s agricultural economics to ensure the state has sufficient food sources without having to depend on importing food.ends
