MIRI: A 20 year-man has been arrested after he stole a chainsaw worth RM1,800 from a house in Taman Tunku last Wednesday.
The theft was caught on the house’s surveillance camera (CCTV).
At 12.56am on Wednesday, the CCTV had filmed the suspect scaling the house’s gate.
Unaware that his act was caught on the CCTV, the suspect took the chainsaw and walked away.
The house owner who had viewed the footage on May 21 handed it over to the police.
According to Miri Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the suspect was detained less than five hours after a police report was lodged last Saturday.
“He was picked up in Taman Jelita around 6.30pm by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department,” Naga said.
The CID personnel also recovered the stolen chainsaw.
The suspect is being detained at the Miri Central Police station (CPS) lockup for questioning.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
