MUKAH: Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya wants action taken against lorries illegally using Batang Igan ferry.
The Jemoreng assemblyman expressed his dismay over an incident last Friday and demanded stern actions taken against the reckless lorries.
According to Juanda, some of the loads involved had damaged the ferry’s maximum benchmark bar.
“I’m concerned and am calling on the Public Works Department (JKR) and Road Transport Department (JPJ) to take stern action against the offenders for damaging public property, causing inconvenience to the public and overloading the ferry.
“Lorries like this should be banned and not allowed to use any ferry and roads throughout Sarawak,” he lamented.
He believed that JKR, JPJ and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have the authority to punish the errant lorries.
“Civil servants who are entrusted with power by the government, should take action with full ‘courtesy’ in conjunction with the spirit of Eid so that the people are protected.
“You civil servants have been given powers and positions by political leaders. So, act!” he asserted.
It is said that the people who frequent the ferry also express their dissatisfaction over the irresponsible parties.
“This is the time when the people become the eyes and ears of the government.
“If no action is taken, then the people will think that the offenders are above the law, and there are many lobsters behind the Sarawak laksa!” he said in exasperation.
It is understood that not long after his Facebook postings, several policemen were at the site investigating the situation.
