Talks between DAP-PSB

Secara Rawak

KUCHING: Sarawak DAP Chairman Chong Chieng Jen has shied away from disclosing anything about the talks between his party and Sarawak and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) on working together in the next general election.

He said he would leave it to the three-man-committee led by his deputy Alice Lau, to handle the negotiations with other opposition parties in the state.

“Anything about the negotiations, the committee will address it.

“We have assigned them to do the job so they are in a better position to issue statements or make announcements on the development or progress of the issue,” he said.

The Kota Sentosa assemblyman was speaking to the reporters at Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s Hari Raya Open House event today. Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong and Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Kelvin Yii were also present.

Chong, who is also the Stampin MP, also refused to talk about seat allocation among the Pakatan Harapan parties in Sarawak, namely PKR and Amanah.

When asked if he would be defending his seat in the 15th General Election, he told the reporters that they would be informed in due course.

On April 26, Lau represented DAP, to attend the first round of talks between her party and PSB, which she described as a ‘friendly discussion’, however, no consensus has been reached.

Besides Lau, DAP Sarawak secretary Alan Ling and treasurer Chiew Chiu Sing were also present, while PSB was represented by president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and PSB Dudong chair Wong Hie Ping.

Lau said the main issues brought up for discussion included the challenges in the upcoming election and the need to avoid fighting among Opposition parties and vote splitting.
