MIRI: A total RM5.2 million was disbursed by the Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Ministry as monthly welfare aid to 4,155 recipients in Miri as of March this year.

Deputy Minister Mohamad Razi Sitam revealed this after presenting Raya goodies to 100 recipients at Dynasty Hotel here, yesterday (April 22).

Each of these recipients received RM100 cash. Those unable to attend the programme would have RM100 credited into their bank accounts.

The recipients also received a food basket each.

“This is proof of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government’s commitment to help underprivileged families,” Mohamad Razi said.

He said that a total of RM61,048,620 had been disbursed to 51,003 recipients statewide as monthly welfare aid from January to March this year by his ministry through the Sarawak Welfare Department.

In conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebration this year, a total of 15,318 underprivileged people or 30.3 per cent of the total recipients received welfare aid.

Also present at the event was Dynasty Hotel Miri managing director Tony Pui.
