SIBU: A total of 989 recipients here received RM100 each as a contribution from the Sarawak government in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
However, only 100 recipients received the contribution physically at the Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri event held in a renowned hotel here yesterday while the contribution for others recipient will be credited to their accounts.
According to Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, the initiative is aimed at cheering those who are registered with the Social Welfare Department.
“During the festive season, they can get a hundred ringgit extra and if they are good at using it, it can cheer up the festive atmosphere together with their family,” she said.
Fatimah added that besides Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri, other initiatives carried by the Sarawak government during this festive season included the Sumbangsih Raya.
“Another initiative in conjunction with this festive season implemented by the Sarawak government is the Sumbangsih Raya programme where we give boxes of food and cakes to members of our security forces and members of the enforcement officer in Sarawak who are on duty during Hari Raya,” she said.
Fatimah shared that the last station they had been to for the Sumbangsih Raya was the Prison Department after visiting the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Customs Department, and the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
“We hope such a good initiative can be done not only for us in Sarawak but elsewhere in Malaysia.
“In this way, we can increase the number of individuals who benefit from them in Malaysia,” she said.
Also present were Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, Johnny Ling Sing She who represented the Dudong assemblyman, State Welfare Department director Noriah Ahmad, and Uli Sibu District Community Welfare Officer Emilda Piar Kunchui.
