300 to attend Quran Revelation Day celebration in Sibu

SIBU: The state-level Nuzul Al-Quran celebration will be held at Masjid An-Nur here on April 18.

Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datu Misnu Taha said it was Sibu’s turn this year to organise the programme.

(Known as the Quran Revelation Day, this special occasion commemorates the day when the words of the Quran were first revealed to the Prophet.)

“This year, it is Sibu’s turn to host the Nuzul Al-Quran celebration and the theme is Manhaj Rabbani Ummah Berkualiti,” he said in a press conference held via zoom at the Resident’s Office here on Monday (April 11).

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, are expected to attend the event.

Abang Johari and Jumaani are scheduled to arrive at 6.20 pm, followed by Abdul Taib and Raghad Kurdi at 6.30 pm.

“A total of 330 people have been invited to the event and the programme is held in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee.

“If there is a little relaxation (later), we will invite more people. For now, we are informed that only 330 are invited,” he said.

However, after Magrib, the public will also be invited to join them to celebrate the celebration.

“I hope Muslims not only in Sibu but also from Sarikei can come over to this function so that they can listen to our invited speaker,” he said.

The invited speaker is deputy dean Faculty of Islamic Studies (Networking And Alumni), Associate Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim.
