Dr Sim: No more nonsense, time to transform SUPP

Secara Rawak

KUCHING: Tough-talking SUPP president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has made it clear that he will not tolerate any nonsense from any quarter going forward.

Fresh from a successful electoral outing which saw SUPP clawing back some lost ground and Dr Sim being appointed Deputy Chief Minister, he wants his party colleagues to seize the moment.

“My job is to make sure that we remain united, no more bad habits of old SUPP. I don’t want to put up with such nonsense anymore. Is that clear?,” he said on Sunday.

He was laying the groundwork for the party in his opening address at SUPP’s Annual Delegates Conference 2021 held at its headquarters here.

“I need unity. I need everyone to be with me. Let’s head the same direction so that SUPP will have the brightest future yet.”

Dr Sim stressed the need to put the interest of the people above all else.

“It is not (about) what is best for the local branches, personal interest. All this is history. I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes here, not under my leadership.

“This is why we need unity and discipline in the party,” he said.

In this context he reminded party members to learn from lessons in the 2006 and 2011 state elections.

“What is most important now is to recover from Covid-19. Sarawak, under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has an agenda to make Sarawak prosperous in 10 years and that is why we have the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030),” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, thus called upon members to work with him to continue to transform SUPP.

“I don’t just want to reform the party. I want to transform SUPP. So, I need your cooperation, support and guidance.

“If SUPP doesn’t change, the people of Sarawak will not give us another chance,” he said, adding that the party must continue to remain relevant.

On another note, he said him being appointed a deputy chief minister was a recognition of SUPP’s contribution in GPS.

“So, once again, may we all stay safe and stay strong, especially to our senior members because of the emergence of Omicron.

“I don’t want to be there to pay last respects, I love you so much, I want you to be with me to fight on and not disappear from me. So, let’s stay strong,” said Dr Sim.
