KUCHING: The Sarawak Initiatives (TSI), in collaboration with Lions Club Kuching North, has adopted three secondary school students as part of their efforts to champion education for the underprivileged.
In February this year, (Feb 22, 2021), Albert Affleck Thomas and Brenda Kueh of SMK Kuching Town No.1, and Aloysius Lim Francis of SMK St Thomas, each received monetary aid of RM2,500 under the programme.
A recent follow up between Datuk John Tenewi (TSI Chairman), Connie Yeo (LCKN Committee Member), Wong Hiong Foo (LCKN Secretary) and the students has seen a tremendous impact through its “Adopt a student” project.
Representatives from both NGOs met at a simple lunch together with three of the recipients, with feedbacks have been positive so far.
They expressed a great amount of gratitude that they were able to thrive in their studies whilst their financial burdens have been lifted.
The collaborative effort was seen as a way to assist students living in the low-income bracket to pay for their schooling expenses.
Potential beneficiaries were identified by the respective school principals. After the selection process by both organizations, selected students would be placed under the project.
