KUCHING: Sarawak did not report any surge in Covid-19 cases after its 12th state elections on Dec 18.
There had been concerns earlier that the Sarawak elections would trigger a surge in Covid-19 cases just like after the state election in Sabah.
Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the caseloads have instead dropped after the year-end Christmas dan New Year celebrations.
“There was no increase in the number of cases after the Sarawak elections, Christmas and New Year celebrations, he said in his Facebook post today.
He said, the number of deaths have fallen, daily cases, hospital and intensive care unit admissions have dropped.
Noor Hisham said 75.6% of Sarawakians had been fully vaccinated and 62% of adults had received their booster dose as at Jan 9.
Meanwhile, he urged all Malaysians to get their their booster shots once they received an appointment date.
