KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is wasting no time to ensure one of its pledges in its election manifesto, which is to set up the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Fund, becomes a reality.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the fund would be set up once experts were appointed to look into the matter.

“The experts can advise the state on the ways to establish the sovereign fund and how to manage the state’s finances more steadily for the future of Sarawak.

“We will also refer to successful funds managed by Nordic countries such as Norway and our neighbour, Singapore who have their own way of managing their financial position,” said Abang Johari, who is also the Finance Minister.

He said this in a press conference after attending Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council meeting held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Sunday (Jan 9) night.

On another note, Abang Johari, who is also PBB president conveyed his appreciation to Sarawakians for their trust in the party which had led the party to win all the 47 seats it contested in the recently concluded state polls.

“Our party, together with our friends in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will continue to carry out pledges in our election manifesto,” he said.

In the 12th State Election, GPS had launched a 34-point election manifesto.

Among its pledges include to guarantee Sarawak’s political stability and autonomy, guarantee equal rights for all Sarawakians and to continue to propel Sarawak towards a developed and high-income state by 2030.
