MANGUT: The severe damage to the embankment in Kampung Hulu Mangut due to the strong current caused by high tide last Monday will be given serious attention, said Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Development Mohd Razi Sitam.
According to him, the impact of king tide this time was more worrying when the village was flooded with more than three feet of water.
“As this is a recent damage, I have instructed the Betong Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to submit a cost estimate to resolve this issue,” he said when contacted by our reporter on wednesday (Jan 5).
Elaborating further, the Saribas assemblyman said the repair work would continue using the rural transformation programme (RTP) and disaster maintenance provisions for other areas under the constituency.
“I really hope the DID can carry out the initial work after the water level starts to recede.
“It should be done immediately because the influx of water into the village (due to damage to the embankment) has affected the residential areas and crops of the residents especially now that rain and high tide often occur simultaneously,” he pointed out.
Razi expressed his commitment to see every issue and problem faced by the people as a priority that should be resolved efficiently together with the relevant agencies.
Earlier, the Betong Civil Defence Force (APM) which carried out monitoring in Kampung Mangut confirmed that the sudden rise in water level in the village was exacerbated by the ruptured embankment.
