New Cabinet lineup reflects unity in GPS

KUCHING: The new Cabinet lineup shows the unity of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in governing Sarawak, says Lo Khere Chiang.

“With 76 seats won in the just concluded state election, there are so many possibilities of people to be deployed in the ministries to run the government.

“With this, I believe that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had thought it over and made his choice based on all the parties’ contributions. We respect that,” said the Batu Kitang assemblyman.

He said this when met by the reporters at SMK Jalan Arang bus stand on Friday (Dec 31).

Lo stated that Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) failing the entire nation including Sarawak had contributed to GPS’ victory despite the low turnout due to the heavy rain and Covid-19 awareness during the polling day,

“Due to their failure in delivering their promises in 22 months and proving themselves, the community, including the Chinese community, are disappointed.

“That is why they supported GPS instead of DAP (one of PH’s component parties),” he said.

Adding on, he said that the beauty of GPS, ‘togetherness’, was what brought them to their success.

“The togetherness shown is why the rakyat support us. If we were divided with grumbles and squabbles among ourselves, we will not be able to do as well (as now).

“Most importantly, in the united GPS under the chief minister, we deliver what we promised. All the promises of projects and to our people, we get it done. We walk the talk,” he asserted.

Furthermore, he thanked and pointed out that Sarawakians’ mature thinking and knowing who were able to deliver contributed to the best people chosen.

“Hence, I would like to encourage all of the GPS elected representatives to always remember to work hard to deliver to the people because what we have done for the past five years brought us the support and recognition that we have today,” he mentioned.

Meanwhile, he also shared his congratulations on the appointment of Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian as deputy chief minister (DCM).

“With the appointment of Dr Sim as the DCM, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) has finally reached its goal to have someone as DCM. This is something that we all look forward to and we will treasure the opportunity given.

“I would also like to congratulate Michael Tiang for being appointed as Local Government Assistant Minister under our SUPP president. Together, they will ensure that the agenda of the local government will get delivered.

“With this, SUPP under GPS will together strive to be the best for our rakyat,” he concluded.
