SIBU: The development in Sibu will be fast tracked with the presence of four Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) assemblymen in the area.
Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee said with the increase of GPS elected representatives in the region would serve as a catalyst for fast and efficient development, benefitting the local dwellers.
“With a team of four elected representatives from GPS, we can talk more for Sibu and get a lot of allocation to be channeled for its development.
“I would also like to thank the voters in Sibu for realising my dream to increase the number of GPS elected representatives in Sibu,” he said.
He said this when met by the media after a function at a leading hotel here.
The quartet comprise himself, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (Dudong), Chieng Jin Ek (Bukit Assek) and Michael Tiang Ming Tee (Pelawan) who won their respective seat in the recently concluded state polls.
Bawang Assan, however is still represented by the opposition with Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh retaining the party’s stronghold.
Dr Annuar said all the elected representatives agreed to focus on solving the flood problem in Sibu with the cooperation from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) during their recent meeting.
“This is as well as related matters for the benefit of the people in Sibu such as housing and transportation.
“Hopefully, with the establishment of this team, all the problems that have plagued us so far will be resolved. We already have a team working for development and change for Sibu,” he added.
