KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s win in the 12th state election (PRN-12) is a victory of the people of Sarawak, said GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“This is especially in placing Sarawak on equal footing with Peninsular Malaysia, that is, a regional partner in Malaysia, whereby the people have given us a mandate — Sarawak first.”
He said this in a victory speech at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night after GPS had secured a majority in the state polls.
“From this victory, the people are signalling that political stability is important for us to continue the development efforts in this blessed Bumi Kenyalang.
“This mandate also empowers us, GPS, to continue sustainable economic development and social policies that prioritise the people,” he said.
He added that GPS’ victory also indicated the importance of the inclusion of all races in the development of Sarawak towards 2030, regardless of differences in ethnicity and religion.
“I take this opportunity to thank the people of Sarawak who are confident in GPS to rule this state in a direction of greater excellence,” said Abang Johari.
He congratulated all GPS leaders from the four component parties – Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) – who had worked hard and given a huge victory to GPS in PRN-12.
He also thanked the Election Commission (EC) as well as all security forces and agencies involved in the election, which had run smoothly.
“Let us all continue our efforts in carrying out our responsibilities and promises in our election manifesto. God willing, we will progress as a developed and high-income Sarawak by 2030,” he said.
