Anti-Party Hopping Bill can prevent political turmoil

KUCHING: The proposed Anti-Party Hopping Bill will act as a deterrent for political turmoil from happening again in the country.

“I agree with the proposed Bill and I believe it can stop the on-going political problems in Malaysia as it has gone for too long now.

“Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, it is still a major topic and the people have grown tired of it,” said deputy vice chancellor (Development and Leadership) Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Prof Datuk Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman.

He said the people have suffered enough with the changes in political landscape, adding that elected representative should not betray the people’s mandate.

“The people have elected their representative, but the elected rep then decides to jump ship. It is an act of betrayal maybe because of political agenda, not for the common good.

“So, I do not see that the proposed legislation will impinge on the democratic freedom of a person, but more towards avoiding political issues like what has happened in the country,” he explained.
