KUCHING: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has lauded the RM1.4 billion Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0 package meant to cushion the financial blow of Sarawakians during the movement control order (MCO).

He said the RM1.4 billion spent by the state government for the latest economic rescue package was on top of its previous RM3.1 billion expenditure for BKSS 1.0 to 5.0.

“Thanks to the State Sales Tax (SST) and revenue re-engineering, Sarawak is not bankrupt but is on the way to financial independence,” he said in a Facebook post.

He added that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government’s efforts to contain Covid-19 reached a historical milestone on Friday, both with the BKSS announcement and the announcement to hasten vaccine rollout.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg unveiled the BKSS 6.0 financial package to help the vulnerable groups weather the two-week MCO.
