Unity plus stability equals strong Sarawak

KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has advised Sarawakians not to roll the dice on important matters like their future.

“We need united Sarawakians and a very strong and stable government which will benefit all Sarawakians. I, therefore, sincerely hope Sarawakians will not gamble away their future,” he said.

Abang Johari said Sarawak’s economic fundamentals were strong while its financial position had been enhanced following years of economic restructuring through prudent approaches.

“And a lot of Sarawakians have returned, working in Petrochem, Sarawak Metro and Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), to mention a few.

“I expect more will come back when our economy is transformed in the next ten years,” he said in his New Year message yesterday.

The chief minister said initiatives such as the establishment of Development Bank of Sarawak (Dbos), Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) as well as infrastructure development projects had benefitted all throughout Sarawak.

“This extends to rural areas in Ulu Kapit with the completion of the Sibu-Kapit Road. The interiors in Baram are also impacted positively through the development brought by the Highland Development Agency (HDA),” he said.

He said the implementation of the state sales tax (SST) on petroleum products had also given additional incomes to Sarawak for 2019, 2020 and many years to come.

“2021 will be the starting point for us to reach 2030 where Sarawak is expected to be a developed and high income state.

“With our united effort and perseverance post Covid-19, God willing, Sarawak will enter a new era towards 2030 beginning with 2021,” he said.
