KUCHING: Another RM10-million river embankment project in Batu Kawah for Kampung Rantau Panjang is expected to start works next month.

Kampung Rantau Panjang is situated at the same side of the river bank, in which the riverbank beautification project is on-going. 

Similiar to opposite Kampung Sinar Budi Lama case, the riverbank also experiencing serious erosion problem for quite some time – posing some safety risks to the kampung communities there.

In view of this matter, Dr Sim had requested for fund allocation from the Sarawak government meant to address the issue, after he conducted several site visits and obtained feedback from the residents as well as suggestions from engineers regarding the proposed preventive measures.

Minister for Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is Batu Kawah assemblyman, make this announcement during today’s site visits with the present of representatives of DID Sarawak.

 DID’s representatives briefed Dr. Sim on the Batu Kawah’s development plan today.

Currently, under the promotion of Dr. Sim, several development projects along the Batu Kawah riverbank has been implemented, this included on-going RM880,000 Batu Kawah phase 1 and 2  Waterfront project which cost RM880,000 and RM3.18 million respectively, RM10 million each  river embankment project for kampung Sinar Budi lama and kampong Rantau Panjang.

Dr. Sim believes that with the completion of the river embankment project, it would change Batu Kawah riverbank’s overall landscape as well as creating another recreation place for the residents.
