MOU good start to realise MA63 mission

KUCHING: It’s a good start for Sarawak and Sabah in seeking the return of their respective rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) following the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Perikatan Nasional (PN) last Sunday.

Political analyst Datuk Peter Minos said that it was thoughtful and good of PN for laying out the five principle common grounds in the MOU in which one of them sought to realise the spirit and objectives of the MA63.

“With the signing of the MOU, it is thus now accepted by all Malaysians that Malaysia consists of Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners. That acceptance is now acknowledged by the PN. Fair and just.

“It is high time for the ruling party to do it this way because MA63 was the basis of the creation of Malaysia in 1963. It was fundamental,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Minos also urged for the MA63 terms to be adhered to, as what Sarawak and Sabah had been asking for this whole time.

On Sunday, six parties namely Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Barisan Nasional, Parti Islam Se-Malaysia, Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku as well as Gabungan Parti Sarawak signed an MoU in support of the formation of PN.
