KUCHING: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research (MESTR) disclosed that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s statement saying ‘not a single school has been fixed’ under the contra deal is correct.
Its minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong said, the Chief Minister had made a factually correct statement based on the comprehensive briefing on the progress of the RM1 billion repairs and upgrading of dilapidated schools project by Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak on Feb 14.
He added, Chong Chien Jen’s claim that the Chief Minister has made his statement without consulting JKR Sarawak was ‘shooting blindly like an immature politician’.
“It only reflects his own arrogance and his own propensity to make statements without checking the facts.
“His boss (Lim Guan Eng) seems to be better informed than he is,” Manyin said in a statement.
Chong’s statement on February 19 was misleading and did not provide a true picture on the repair and upgrading works of the said schools in Sarawak.
Manyin stressed, as the Deputy Minister for Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Chong should concentrate his efforts on addressing domestic trade issues such as rising prices of essential items which has burdened low income-earning people especially the B40 group.
