KUCHING: The sooner the nation’s dwindling economy recovers, the better, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs deputy minister Chong Chieng Jen.
He said that the recovery signs are evident and that the strengthening position of the Ringgit Malaysia currency will benefit the nation’s economy as well as the state.
“We hope that the economy will recover as soon as possible and that in the coming new year that the economy will pick up and I am sure that Sarawak will do well.
“There are signs of such recovery and with more investment is coming in, our Ringgit is becoming stronger and our transparency index position has leaped by 10 positions from 61 to 51,” he said.
He said that when met by reporters at his Chinese New Year open house ceremony at the Association of Churches building here on Saturday.
Chong said, with better transparency index positioning, it will boost the confidence of foreign investors to invest in the nation.
Earlier, the state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman welcomed Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and state Cabinet members at his open house ceremony.
Present to accompany Abang Johari was Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar James Jemut Masing; Infrastructure and Ports Development assistant minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi and Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring assistant minister Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
“It’s an honour and a pleasure to have the CM (Abang Johari) and DCM (Masing) visiting the open house, I thank them for coming to celebrate this CNY together with us.
“I think our guests are very happy to see CM (Abang Johari) around and well. We wish everybody a happy new year,” he said.
