24 vie for beauty pageant crown

KUCHING: A total of 24 aspirants for the coveted Miss Scuba International crown have arrived in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. They will be stationed at Mabul Water Bungalow, located at Mabul Island, for their daily preparation, training and activities before the pageant’s grand finals.

Miss Scuba International founder and president Robert Lo is pleased with the increased number of global participants in this year’s pageant.During the orientation session, Lo encouraged the contestants to cut down on the usage of plastic items to reduce pollution. He also reminded them to have fun exploring the wonders of underwater world in Sabah.

Meanwhile, Ryannie Neils Yong, is representing Malaysia with 23 other hopeful contestants from various parts in the world.

The participants, aged between 18 and 28, comprise undergraduates and professionals. Countries represented in the pageant include United Kingdom, South Africa, Indonesia, China, India, Japan, Macau, Nepal, Sweden, USA, Mauritius and the Philippines.

This pageant aims at celebrating not only the inner beauty and courage of today’s modern women, but also to advocate for marine conservation. The contestants will be required to participate in marine conservation workshops conducted by WWF-Malaysia, and dive in the world’s only oceanic mushroom island, Sipadan.
