Apply for i-KeeP

KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) is encouraging convenience stores and supermarket chains in the state to take part in its Consumer Economic Shop Initiative (i-KeeP).

Its deputy minister, Chong Chieng Jen, stated that the state-level initiative was recently launched at the ‘Buy Malaysian Products Campaign Carnival’ held in conjunction with Hawkers and Petty Traders’ Day celebration at MJC in Batu Kawa.

“In this initiative, the ministry will collaborate with private shops to offer daily necessities at reasonable prices,” he said to reporters after officiating at the closing ceremony of the three-day carnival on Sunday.

“The initiative was launched on Friday and the first supermarket to take part in the initiative was Everwin Sdn Bhd where many locals are buying daily necessities.

“This initiative will be continued and we hope that it would lighten the public’s cost of living.”

He further stated that other than Everwin, there are many other stores in Malaya collaborating with the ministry under i-KeeP.

“I hope more players in the state would take part in this programme so that essential goods can be sold at affordable prices,” he said, adding that those who wish to join the initiative and cooperate with the ministry can contact the ministry officials.
