Budget shows PH’s true colours

Secara Rawak

KUCHING: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government is being true to itself with their budgetary allocation in Budget 2020.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie lamented that instead of embodying the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV 2030), the budget showed the federal government’s true colours.

“As a Sarawakian, I find the budget very disappointing with Sarawak only getting RM4.4 billion which is even lesser than our neighbour Sabah who is getting RM5.2 billion. Their Malaysia Baru spirit is nothing but a mere populist stunt,” she told yesterday.

Doris yearned that despite Putrajaya’s trend of making countless 180 degrees, they would eventually prove to be better than their predecessors and bring more developments to the state.

“I had hoped that they would make a fair readjustment to address the imbalance of economic wealth sharing, the nation’s oil and gas revenue, and reflected these in the Budget 2020, but no!

“They either failed to plan properly or rather they are deliberate in not allocating appropriate budget to develop Sarawak. “

She viewed that the limited allocation to the state is undoubtedly by design and a reflection of the PH federal government’s attitude towards the state.

“It has been over a year since PH became the federal government. I would also expect the pledges they made in their GE14 manifesto like lower fuel prices, 20 per cent oil royalty for Sarawak, waiving PTPTN loan repayments are reflected in Budget 2020 but yet these are conveniently left out too.

“What is obviously seen and felt from this Budget 2020 is that it is not friendly and not fair to Sarawak,” she expressed.
