Sarawak records budget surplus for many years

SIBU: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng’s statement which said that Sarawak will go bankrupt in three years’ time if it continues to be ruled by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition was only a political motive.

In response to the statement, Tamin Assemblyman Christopher Gira said the Sarawak government had recorded budget surplus for many years as a result of higher revenue than expenditure.

“These continuous budget surpluses had enabled the state to build up its reserves. And for many years, Sarawak has no budget deficit and received recognition and also obtained “A” rating in financial management,” he explained.

According to Gira, after Pakatan Harapan (PH) took over the government, the country’s debt increased from RM688 billion to RM800 billion.

“Thus, Lim must focus on how to reduce the country’s debt and be focus on his job,” Gira said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune.

He also mentioned that Sarawak has many smart people and does not need an outsider to manage Sarawak because Sarawak is being ruled by GPS.
