BINTULU: Some areas are still facing ‘air lock’ problem and the ‘flushing’ works are being carried out, however, the water pressure to the Rh Robert area took some time to recover.
At the same time, the water transmission process was also carried out on the affected areas to ensure the villagers would get the water needed for daily usage.
The Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (SRWSD) had made 5 trips to distribute the water supply based on the demand in the affected areas such as Suai Health Clinic and SK Batu Telingai, as 1 trip equivalent to 1200 gallons of water.
The water supply problem in Rh Robert was recovered on Tuesday, 11 June 2019, and other affected areas are expected to be fully recovered this week.
They expressed their concerns about the problem and have prepared two key action plans, namely immediate action and medium-term action to improve the water supply in the Suai area.
Two projects have been and will be implemented namely the People’s Project under the NR2 Package and Suai Complex Phase 2 Water Supply Project (Suai Complex Phase 2).
The People’s Project under NR2 Package involves the upgrading of existing mechanical components at the Suai Water Treatment Plant and the new construction of a booster pump station on site adjacent to the Forest Research Centre in Sungai Sebubok to pump water to the area around Suai to Rh Robert.
It is expected for the first project to be completed in October of 2020, and the second project by mid-2022.
Both of the initiatives will increase water supply capacity and improve water pressure to areas along Jalan Batang Suai, Jalan Pesisir Miri-Bintulu, Jalan Miri-Bintulu, Jalan Kampung Lajong, Jalan Ladang Tiga, Tadika Kemas Rh Robert, SK Batu Telingai, Suai, Suai Rural Clinic, Rh Robert area and the Suai Complex area.
The Ministry of Utilities Sarawak is requesting the public to contact and make immediate reports to the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department office in the Miri Division at 085-442204.
