CM promises major project for ‘numbered’ villages

KUCHING: A big secret project is coming to hit Kampung Nombor soon!

This was hinted by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when he officiated at Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri at Masjid Darulhana Patingan, Kampung No 6 here, yesterday.

“I would not want to ruin the surprise since the project is still in planning. If everything runs smooth, Kampung Nombor 6, Kampung Nombor 5, Kampung Nombor 4 and all the way to Kampung Nombor 3, will be more beautiful than ever.

“When everything is prepared, then I will announce the big news,” he said.

Located near Satok and the Kuching Division Mosque, the villages in Kampung Nombor were renamed using numbers, thus Kampung Nombor 1, Kampung Nombor 2 until Kampung Nombor 6 during the British occupation circa 1946.

Kampung Nombor 1 was originally known as Segoleng while Kampung Bintangor and Bandarsah became Kampung Nombor 2, Kampung Muhibbah became Kampung Nombor 3 and the remaining areas became Kampung Nombor 4.

Apart from that, Kampung Sungai Lajim was renamed Kampung Nombor 5 and Kampung Patingan renamed Kampung Nombor 6.

Abang Johari also urged Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (Sains) to establish a special account for Darulhana Patingan Mosque so that digital application Sarawak Pay can be used as a platform to boost fund contribution for the mosque.

“With the account established, it will be easier for the members of the public to contribute to the mosque,” he said.

Among those present were the Chief Minister’s wife Datuk Jumaani Tuanku Bujang, Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) president Datuk Misnu Taha, Patingan Muslim Welfare Trust Board (LAKKMKP) chairman Datuk Abdillah Abdul Rahim and Darulhana Patingan Mosque chairman Zamhari Hashim.
