Talk to revitalize Orang Ulu cultural heritage

KUCHING: A heritage talk was held at Sarawak Museum Department, Kuching, titled “Searching For Integrity In The Orang Ulu Paintings Of The Sarawak Museum Collection.”

The talk was given by NGO Friends of Sarawak Museum founding member, Louise Macul, who talked about her research approach to the unique history of all the paintings in the museum collection created by the Berawan, Kenyah, and Kayan.

Presenting her slides, Louise examined the paintings in term of salvage ethnography, their traditional function and meaning, and their unique painting method.

She explained that her topic of research combines the appreciation for the arts, passion for heritage preservation, and a drive to treat and promote cultural, natural heritage with compassion and dignity.

She expressed hope that the public will be interested in these painting through her passion and her wish to revitalize a cultural memory of a Borneo Tradition.
