MIRI: SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said that only a BN component party member can stand under the BN ticket in the Pujut by-election and the BN direct candidate has passed its usage.
Pujut constituency was a seat contested by SUPP, a party under Barisan Nasional (BN) and whoever wants to contest the Pujut seat must resign from their party and join SUPP. Thereafter, we will only consider (them),” he said as reported by SUPP News portal.
Dr Sim was was in Miri to attend the Miri-Sibuti Parliamentary Liaison Committee meeting, which was also attended by SUPP leaders there which included, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting , Datuk Lee Khim Shim as well as other representatives from the party’s Senadin, Piasau, Lambir, Pujut and Bekenu branches to discuss the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).
He said SUPP was always ready to face any challenges, including this by-election and had a list of candidates ready.
Polling for the Pujut by-election, which is in the Miri parliamentary constituency, has been set for July 4. Nomination of candidates will be on June 20.
A by-election was called for the Pujut state seat, after its incumbent Dr Ting Tiong Choon was removed by the Sarawak state assembly on May 12 for holding dual citizenship.
Dr Ting won the Pujut seat with a majority of 1,759 votes in a four-cornered fight in the May 2016 Sarawak state election.
