KUCHING: Former president of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Tan Sri Peter Chin Fak Kui said, while the IT team of SUPP at its Headquarters in Kuching was working on the authenticity of the image in question, as the former President (2012 to 2014), he wished to put a stop to this line of witch-hunting against the current leadership of SUPP that was elected into office in September, 2014.
Recently, Peter Chin said he was alerted and became aware to an on-line publication by the Sarawak Report of the image of a cheque dated sometime in 2013 that is supposed to be issued by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak in favour of SUPP’s.
“This publication at this time of the 11th Sarawak Elections is to cast a disparaging image of SUPP and consequently affecting the electability of BN/SUPP candidates,” he said.
The date on the image of the cheque (blurred in a few spots) was sometime in 2013.
“I want to stress that Party funding responsibilities has always been squarely on the shoulders of the Party President,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Chin was the Party President in 2013.
He said: “This publication by Sarawak Report is in my view an effort to cast negative aspersions of the SUPP leadership then and now hoping to mislead voters from voting on current issues which are important to the peoples of Sarawak.”
Chin urged voters everywhere in Sarawak but more particularly those who are voting in constituencies which are contested by BN/SUPP candidates not to be swayed by such tactics of the Opposition. This he said, was another example of coordinated attacks with international parties meddling in the Sarawak elections.
“I want to assure every voter that SUPP has not done anything wrong under the existing laws of our country,” he added.
Meanwhile, SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian claims he have never seen the purported RM500,000 cheques issued to the party in 2012 and 2013. – Sarawakvoice.com
