KUCHING: Sarawak supports leaders who are sincere in helping the state, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the people in the state are rational and had a culture of appreciating assistance rendered.
“I have long been in politics and I know the opposition leader when he was in power. We are supposed to have our coastal road and then their leader who was our Deputy Prime Minister then did not do anything…I was there in the state cabinet.
“Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak came and he brought the Pan Borneo Highway so you can see the sincerity of the leader. I mean I cannot lie and Sarawakians are also rational people, we have a culture of supporting people who assist us,” he said.
He was speaking at a media conference on the preparations of Kuching Zone PBB at the PBB headquarters in Jalan Bako, Tuesday.
Abang Johari who is Satok state assemblyman was commenting on a call by Balakong state assemblyman, Ng Tien Chee that one of the ways to topple the Barisan Nasional government was to topple it at the coming state election.
Abang Johari who is also Sarawak Housing Minister expressed confidence the issues brought by the opposition such as Goods and Services Tax (GST) and that Umno would be brought to Sarawak could be successfully defeated.
Describing the matters as petty issues, he said there was a big difference between Umno and PBB as the Bumiputeras in the state have a different background and Umno did not have this specialisation.
Umno leaders in Kuala Lumpur are sensitive on the matter. In PBB itself we have Ibans, Orang Ulu…we do not have problems with religion and our cultures are also different.
“The people of Sarawak know their own cultures and traditions that we need to preserve. We are all not involved in these petty issues’,” he said.
Abang Johari said what was important now was to bring the state forward and not to be taken by petty issues and cheap propagandas.- Bernama
