KUALA LUMPUR: Minister Natural Resources and Environment, Dato Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was arwarded with the Research Professor title by President of University of Seoul, Republic of Korea Professor Dr Won Tun-Hi today.
The awarding ceremony took place during the Malaysia-Korea Seminar on Healty River Basin organised by Concrete Society of Malaysia (CSM), National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) and University of Seoul, at Hotel Seri Pacific, Kuala Lumpur today.
According to a press release, the objectives of the seminar is to provide an opportunity and platform to both countries involving the government, universities, private sector and other stakeholders who are directly involved in water research to share information, expertise, experience and exchange ideas.
A total of 3 keynote papers and 14 technical papers will be presented. Seven of the technical papers will be presented by speakers from Malaysia and the rest will be delivered by presenters from Korea.
Approximately 100 participants with 30 participants will be from Korea and another 70 participants from Malaysia participated in this seminar themed; “innovative research towards the security, quality and sustainability of water resources” with Junaidi officiating it.
During the seminar, Malaysia Korea Water Research Association had also been and this association has been established under NAHRIM and the University of Seoul, Republic of Korea initiative and was registered under the Registry of Society Malaysia since January 2016.
It is now open for registration to researchers, academicians, engineers, scientists, environmentalists and water specialists from both countries.
The objective is to provide a platform for agencies, universities and stakeholders who are involved in water research in Malaysia and Korea to exchange knowledge, expertise, experiences and technologies towards healthy and sustainable river basin.
These are the first step taken to start the cooperation between Malaysia and Korea in the field of hydraulics research and water environment especially on the field of product commercialisation, new research collaboration, training and attachment programme at both countries, industrial involvement in product commercialisation, obtaining new technologies in water treatment and etc.
Nowadays, Malaysia market is full with foreign technologies and products. Therefore, this is the right time for local products to enter the Malaysian market which is more accessible, cheaper and local experts.
In conjunction of the seminar, NAHRIM will take this opportunity to commercialise two of its products which is NAHRIM Integrated Drainage System (NIDS) and NAHRIM Hydraulics Marker (NhM). NAHRIM Integrated Drainage System (NIDS) is a third generation drainage system after soil drainage and concrete.
It is a special drainage system with the capability of controlling the quantity and quality of drainage water.
NIDS has the facilities to hold the drainage water and it also provides treatment facilities in order to enhance or upgrade the quality of drainage water before it is infiltrated and stored underground or discharged to nearby water receiver. NAHRIM Hydraulics Marker is used for the demarcation of the buffer zone and marking the reserve for rivers, lakes, coastal and irrigation channel.
The installation of NhM is based on the buffer zone strip of the rivers, lakes, coastal and irrigation channels as to mark those areas not to be disturbed unless the regulatory authority authorizes the activities in these protected areas.
A pilot project to test both products has been carried out at several locations such as Cameron Highlands, Chini Lake and the National Zoo and it was launched in Cameron Highlands by Minister of NRE on 3rd September 2015. – SARAWAKVOICE.COM
